The New ILAR

The International League Against Rheumatism has recently reincorporated as the International League of Associations for Rheumatology with a more focused mission to advance rheumatology in developing countries. The new ILAR’s Executive Committee consists of the Presidents and Presidents-Elect of ACR, AFLAR, APLAR, EULAR, and PANLAR. The collaboration of the leaders of these international organizations has resulted in a renewed commitment to support programs that lead to progress in the practice and education of rheumatology in countries where there is an exceptional need.

Request for Project Proposals

ILAR’s new Executive Committee held their initial meeting at the ACR’s Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston, MA in November 2007. The purpose of the initial meeting was to solidify the dedication to pursuing the mission of ILAR. In June 2008, ILAR’s Executive Committee held their second meeting in conjunction with the EULAR Congress in Paris, where they discussed plans for ILAR projects in the upcoming year. ILAR’s Executive Committee decided to solicit proposals for ILAR projects for the funding year 1 January – 31 December 2009. ILAR solicited project proposals or requests for ILAR’s contribution to projects between the amounts of $5,000 and $30,000 US dollars. In total, ILAR will fund projects up to $100,000 US dollars in 2009. The intention of ILAR is that at least one project will be funded from countries represented by the AFLAR, APLAR and PANLAR leagues in 2009.
